Due to recent rental inflation, unexpected medical bills, in addition to several other factors which I will go into shortly, dear friends of mine and their daughters who I call my nieces, are facing eviction in 5 days unless they can come up with the rent that they owe. I have helped them exhaust every other possible option before making the situation public and asking friends and family for help, including exploring local and state-wide emergency and nonprofit organizations, including churches - to no avail.
As many who are close with the family know, Jessica has had a lot of recent health issues that led to having her thyroid completely removed. Most recently, I had to call emergency services for Jessica because she collapsed in excruciating pain that completely debilitated her. After several tests it turned out that her white blood cell count was elevated, and she is going through several more tests, including an endoscopy and biopsy, to determine the cause of the pain. These tests will hopefully rule out the very worst possibility of cancer.
Steve has been a fire medic for years, but as you know in Brevard County firefighters are not paid nearly what they are worth, so he made the decision to go back to school to be trained for a career that would give him the ability to provide better for his family. He completed his degree for radiology last August, and finally found a great full-time job for a pediatric urgent care center.
Just last month, Jessica was offered a promising ESE position at an elementary school in Brevard just before the start of the school year. They both finally had their dream jobs, starting to get back on their feet, and seeing the light at the end of the tunnel to financial recovery. Then suddenly, this past Friday, Jessica was blindsided by a layoff due to low enrollment numbers.
This family needs a break, and they need the help of their community to get it. In addition to the multiple storms they were facing, they opened up their home to us temporarily while we moved back here from out of state, and gave us the time we needed for me to find a job here and to find a place to live. They saved us from having to rent a temporary home where prices are astronomical and far beyond the current average wages. I would have never been able to find a job or a home if not for the generosity they extended to me and my family.
If I could personally afford to give them the entire $9000 I would, but I need the help of others. If you have the means and can find it in your heart to help my wonderful friends, I assure you - they indeed earned that kindness to be extended to them. It is very urgent. Today is day 1 of the 5 day deadline they were given or else they face eviction.
I am writing this because I need everyone to know that Steve and Jessica are the definition of unconditional love. They have been so generous to me and my family, and asked nothing of us. They gave us sanctuary when we needed it most. I am trying to do everything in my power to get them the help that they need. They deserve it. Please help me do that for them.
EDIT: The Vega Family has been given a 1 week extension. They now have until Friday, 09/09/2022 to pay what they owe or face eviction.
