For many years, Berthe Mairounga has lived in the depths of loss - first after her husband was abducted and likely killed by rebels in Chad and then after her refugee status allowed her to come to the U.S., which meant leaving behind her second husband and the father of her youngest son, Prosper.

Despite disabilities, logistical challenges, and raising five children alone in a new country, Berthe has worked tirelessly to bring her husband, Valentin, to the U.S. so their family can be reunited. She already saved the $2000 required to get his visa. Now she is saving for his airline ticket and green card, which is another $1300-2000.
