Urgent Help Needed to Visit Mom with Dementia
Donation protected
This is not an easy thing for me, for so many reasons, but here we go.
Last week, we had to make the hard decision to admit my mom into a skilled nursing facility due to a rapid onset of dementia. Although she has been showing signs of dementia for over a year now, we just recently got word from a neurologist that they think it’s a metabolic dementia, and that is all we have so far. The past few weeks, she has started to drastically decline. A few weeks ago, she was able to walk, talk, use the bathroom on her own, and even Uber to dialysis. Today, she is unable to do anything but lay in bed as she is so weak. A week ago, I was able to at least have a conversation with her on the phone; today, she didn’t even know who I was but did say that she wanted to hug me. I need to make that happen, for the both of us.
Unfortunately, with me living in California and her just south of Houston, I do not have the means to pay for a flight, hotel, and miss work (no PTO) right now, so I have had to bite the bullet and ask for help. Anything is more than appreciated and all funds will go to the trip to see her. I’m hoping to go ASAP as we do not know what to expect given the fact that this is progressing as quickly as it is. Thank you so much for reading.
