Help Save My House, it’s caving in
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Phil. I purchased this house as a retirement asset, believing it would secure my future and provide a peaceful place to live. Unfortunately, unknown at the time, I didn’t have the necessary insurance rider to cover ice storm damage, and on January 18, 2018, an ice storm changed everything. A fallen tree damaged both the electrical system and—most critically—the roof, leaving me with an overwhelming repair bill.
Being 68 and on a fixed income, I simply cannot afford the urgent repairs needed. The roof damage has been especially devastating. Leaks have led to the collapse of ceilings in three rooms, taking down walls and floors along with them. Without immediate repairs, my asset-home is at risk of being condemned, which would completely derail my retirement plans.
I’m reaching out for your support to help cover the costs of these essential repairs. I’ve documented the damage with photos so you can see the severity of the situation firsthand. Every donation, no matter how small, brings me one step closer to restoring my asset-home and ensuring it remains a safe, stable place to live with peace of mind.
Time is of the essence—if I can’t secure these funds soon, I may face citations and a strict deadline from the City Code Enforcement Board, further complicating an already dire situation.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story. Your support means more than words can express.
I want share with you some thoughts from Jayne, my beautiful wife for the past 47 years:
In an effort to safeguard our future, we used our funds to purchase two neighboring houses, hoping to generate rental income. We trusted the man we were buying from, believing in his good faith, and now these houses have become a burden. They require major repairs—including outdated wiring and structural issues—that have turned them into financial drains. My husband, who earns $35,000 a year and manages his diabetes, is at risk of injury as he attempts to fix the city-mandated problems. Meanwhile, I have suffered serious health setbacks, including a broken hip, lung complications, and nearly two years in the hospital and rehab following severe chest and brain injuries.
Today, I am asking for assistance to repair my grandmother’s old home—a property we own, where our son lived until a year ago before moving to Texas to be with his sweetheart. We now face mounting fines and unsafe conditions that jeopardize our family’s well-being. My autistic son, who cannot receive disability benefits, and our entire savings have been depleted by the ongoing repairs and city fines. Any contribution you can make will help us secure a safe home for our son and cover the vital dental care we need through our Social Security benefits.
Thank you for taking the time to read our story and for considering a contribution to help us get back on our feet.
Blessings,
Jayne
