Hello Everyone, My name is Jason, and I am reaching out on behalf of my family to request support. For nearly a year, we have been dealing with severe, unresolved roof damage that has significantly impacted our home and our well-being. Despite contacting our insurance company repeatedly, we have not received a meaningful resolution. The affected room continues to leak with every rainfall this winter.
On December 12, 2024, heavy rain and 60 mph winds caused my son’s bedroom window and wall to start leaking rapidly. The water built up behind the paint until it bubbled, burst, and spilled across the room. Items in that room were damaged.
Over the next few days, the damage grew worse. On December 15, the ceiling in my son’s room suddenly split and collapsed. The falling drywall hit both my son and my wife, injuring my wife. My son was relocated to the living room for the time being in what we thought was going to be a short amount of time. Hours after the leaking occurred in the room, we lost power to the main affected room, the living room, both bathrooms, and our heater. We went 3 months without a heater. My disabled mother took the brunt of those three months. We were not offered housing replacement or any sort of help during this time.
On December 28, a contractor finally placed a tarp over the roof, but nothing was repaired inside. Furniture began to mold. Everything remained under the tarps we put up until we were told what our next best step would be. We had no one call us during this time.
It wasn’t until March 6, 2025, that a single piece of drywall was put over the hole. The electric to the house was restored in places that it stopped working in. My son was told he could sleep in his room now that the drywall was put in place. No cleanup was done within the room. My son had to clear fiberglass, drywall chunks, and debris himself just to step foot into his room again. After that, all work stopped. When he returned in September, we contacted insurance again, only to be told our case had been closed—even though nothing had been fixed. We have been trying to call for months to figure out what else we need to do on our end, and we get left on voicemail.
Each rainfall has made things worse. We’ve done everything we can as a family, but without proper repairs, the leaking has spread to another bedroom and continues to damage the drywall, insulation, and flooring. My son has been sleeping on the couch for months. My disabled mother has been displaced with the new changes to the house. It's made it hard for her to go about her day. Our heating bills have skyrocketed because we must keep windows open to ventilate the smell of wet fiberglass. The damage now affects two bedrooms and gets worse every time it rains. I'm worried our heating could go out again if this continues. We have nowhere to house ourselves if we lose power again.
On November 16, 2025, the leaking became the worst we’ve seen. Water poured into the room nearly as fast as the rain outside, soaking the floor. We can no longer keep up with the damage or the cost of trying to mitigate it. Our insurance has not resolved the claim, and we are running out of options. We simply want a safe home again. A dry roof, repaired walls, and a place where my son and my mother can sleep comfortably. I'm worried my mother will get very sick if this continues.
Your donation will help us:
- Replace and properly repair the roof
- Repair the damaged ceilings, walls, and floors
- Remove soaked insulation and prevent mold.
- Restore the bedrooms so our family can return to living safely and comfortably.
As we approach a full year since the initial incident, we are sincerely asking for your help. Our family is overwhelmed, displaced, and unable to move forward without support. Any assistance toward repairing our roof would mean the world to us. Anything you can give, big or small, means more to us than words can express. Thank you for reading our story, for sharing it, or for offering any support. We are deeply grateful. We wish you all wonderful, happy, and safe holidays.
