Urgent! Help Jerry Recover
My brother, Jerry has Spinal Muscular Atrophy, Type 2 (Muscular Dystrophy). He has been in the hospital since December 17th. After coming in for a simple one day surgery, things did not go well and has left Jerry with a tracheostomy tube, a feeding tube and heavy congestion in his lungs. Although he has improved in some areas, like being able to speak again, his breathing situation has diminished. He now has a mucus plug in his lower left lung. That means that no air is reaching his lower left lung.
A Bronchoscopy is scheduled to locate and clear the mucus plug. Once that happens he has to actively start coughing or the left lung will block again. It takes two people to help Jerry cough. In the past, whenever Jerry is like this, he has had help readily available. Usually consisting of my mom and my cousin, myself or another family member or friend. My mom is there but we are struggling to find a second person (group of people to rotate) to assist with the cough.
This secondary person needs to be available at the moment that Jerry needs to cough. When the secretions move into the right place, he has to cough right then or the secretions/mucus will move back down into his lungs and/or solidify.
This is basically a do or die situation. The hospital will not allow nurses to assist with this so the help has to come from outside the hospital. This fundraiser is to help pay for someone to come in and assist with the coughing process.
If you can help physically, by all means contact me at [email redacted] but if you can help with a donation, that will help as well. And as always all prayers are appreciated.
More about Jerry:
Jerry is confined to a wheelchair and has very limited use of his body. He is unable to cough on his own. I encourage you to read his biography and learn more about the mountain of adversity that he has overcome from sickness to learning how to live to overcome the bodily restrictions. His story is inspiring and it is not over yet.
