Urgent Help for Nicole's Housing Crisis

I never imagined I’d have a reason to create a GoFundMe, but due to a heartbreaking series of events, my fiancée, Nicole Burton, is now at risk of losing their housing.

On July 12, 2024, Nicole and their mother were forced to move out of their home in Los Angeles, California, due to a family conflict.

On September 14, 2024, Nicole and their mother arrived in Michigan. They were able to move into an apartment in Kalamazoo provided by a close family friend, who also vouched to help them apply for disability benefits and build a sustainable life in their new living situation. To further this claim, she promised to take my partner and their mother to Small Claims Court to receive a hearing about what could be done.

That brings us to May 16, 2025. A severe thunderstorm struck Kalamazoo, leaving the area without power or services for days. As of May 18 at 8:17 PM, their internet service had just been restored. This outage left Nicole and their mother unable to prepare for their upcoming court hearing, including printing or reviewing important documents.

Despite this, on May 19th, at 8:00 AM, Nicole's mother attended the hearing and received the notice that they would have to come up with $2,700 before the 1st of June. This is practically impossible. Both my and my fiancée's hands are tied. I've turned to mutual aid on their behalf as a last resort.

Nicole is 19, homebound, and lives with several disabilities—the most debilitating being Chronic Pain Syndrome. This condition prevents them from standing for extended periods or performing physical labor. Because of this, they’ve had to leave school and have endured numerous emergency hospital visits over the past five years.

Nicole’s mother also lives with multiple disabilities, and they work together to stay afloat.

With that said, in total, they need about $2,700 to cover these costs. I've added an extra $100 to the goal just in case of complications. Any other costs will go to improving their situation. Thank you for reading.
