Hi, my mom is living in terrible conditions through no fault of  her own….  I'm trying to help get her out of a bad situation made worse by someone trying to help. After living in a rental home on Section 8 housing for 20+ years in Alabama, she and her husband were given two months to move out. (We are not blaming the landlord as he has been a Godsend and never raised their rent.) They are both 73 years old. She has Parkinson's, and he has congestive heart failure. His daughter provided them with a place to live, but they had to pack up and move 9 hours. They did and were so grateful. Until they got there... the place his daughter has provided is a single-wide trailer with no power (the power box is on the ground with no wiring connecting it any longer) and no running water (90% of the pipes were busted some time ago), a leaky roof, and the well pump needs to be replaced. Needless to say, they moved from a decent but not ideal situation to a TERRIBLE situation. My mom's husband has always been a maintenance worker with different apartment complexes and such. I guess his daughter thought they could live there and fix it up. Unfortunately, with the summer heat, their medical conditions, no electricity, no water, no running vehicle, and no income other than what slight benefits they get from the state of Tennessee now, they can barely afford to eat. That's before you take into consideration their medical conditions. We truly believe the daughter was trying to help, but this is way above anyone's capabilities or funds.

To be fully transparent, they have five dogs, two cats, and birds. They WILL NOT part with any of them, which of course has severely limited their options. I'm aware it also takes away from their limited funds. But no one can talk them into rehoming their "babies".

His sister has now offered for them to move to Florida with her. Confirmed it is a real house with water and electricity. It is small, but it will be so much better than what they are dealing with now. I have given all the funds I can at the moment, and they need about $2,000.00 more to get them out of the sweltering heat and on the road. This will help with the truck and dolly rental (for the truck that doesn't run), gas, and a hotel stay since they won't be able to make that trip in one day due to their medical issues.
