Urgent Care Needed for Grandpa's Health

UPDATE (Apr 8th): Closed the GoFundMe as we no longer need any more donations. Between the GFM donations and the donations my mother received offline, we had enough to cover funeral services. UPDATE (Feb 3rd): Bounleuan has passed away yesterday morning, as stated from the most recent update. Our family is heartbroken and mourning the loss of our beloved grandfather. The Gofundme will stay up for a little longer and all donations will go towards funeral expenses. If we end up reaching our $5,000 goal, it would ease our burden and cover those costs. Hello, my name is Dara and I'm helping my family fundraise to get my grandpa, Bounleuan, better treatment for his health in Laos.

My grandpa has had Type 1 Diabetes for the past 30 years but after moving back to Laos, he has been unable to treat his diabetes due to the expensive costs of insulin there. This led to a series of health problems which includes failed kidneys, pulmonary edema (too much fluid in lungs), and an enlarged heart.

Currently, Bounleuan is receiving minimal treatment for his worsened health in a hospital in Pakse, Laos. He’s on a ventilator since he cannot breathe by himself and is taking antibiotics, which is the extent of care at this facility.

We’d like to try and transfer him to a Thailand hospital in Ubon, where he can get a better diagnosis for his conditions and receive effective treatment. Unfortunately, the costs of getting better healthcare is expensive, costing roughly $300-400 USD per night while staying at the hospital. All money donated would go straight towards these hospital and treatment costs.

It genuinely feels like a burden to ask for financial help but between my current unemployment in a very unstable industry and my mother's very expensive cancer treatments, our family is just struggling to come up with funds to help our grandpa. It would mean so much if you can help by donating or sharing our Gofundme. Even if you only have a few dollars to spare, those dollars will definitely go such a long way in Lao currency ($1 USD = ~20,000 Lao Kip). Anything helps.

UPDATE (Jan 30th): Since posting this Gofundme, my grandpa's condition had worsen. He was unable to wake up. My family decided that we needed to transfer him immediately to the Ubon hospital in Thailand so that he can get better help for his health. Between us and our extended family, we pooled together enough funds to make that possible. After we got him settled in the new hospital, he finally awoke but was unable to recognize or remember people. That's the last update I've received as of Jan 30th.

We're glad we were able to make that transfer possible and quite frankly, we're relieved he will be getting better care. But we still need any possible help on getting funds to offset the cost of transferring him and for the possible costs of an extended stay at this hospital.
