Urgent Aid for a Struggling Veteran Family

My heart is so heavy writing this, but as a mother, I can’t sit by any longer while my daughter, her husband, and my grandbabies fight through hardship after hardship. They are both military veterans who have always done their best to stand strong, and provide for their family. But life has pushed them to a breaking point, and I’m terrified of what will happen if they don’t receive support soon.

When my daughter left the military, she and her husband were hopeful and ready to build a stable life for their children. He was offered a management job in another city, and they moved their entire family — eight hours away — believing it was the start of something better. But the company never opened the new location. He accepted a lower-paying position just to keep going, but no matter how hard he worked, it wasn’t enough to take care of their growing family.

He later got a job at the Tesla Gigafactory, where they welcomed my third little grand baby boy during this time. But, when a family member passed away, and after taking leave for the funeral, he lost his job. Suddenly, everything they had built started slipping away again.

He worked any job he could find — sometimes multiple at once — but nothing could slow the avalanche of bills. My daughter tried to work too, but her military-related PTSD and anxiety trigger sudden blackouts, making it dangerous for her and impossible to keep a job. Watching her struggle with this has been heartbreaking.

As their stress grew, their car problems grew too. Kameron lost two jobs simply because the vehicles they depended on broke down. Desperate, he turned to unemployment and DoorDash, but when their cars were repossessed, he couldn’t deliver anymore — and unemployment decided to take him to court, claiming he had “quit.” It felt like every time they tried to stand, something knocked them back down.

Soon, they had no income at all. Their food stamps were cut off due to an unknown error. They were evicted and became homeless with three children. For three months they bounced from house to house, sleeping wherever someone could offer a couch or a spare room. As a mother and grandmother, knowing my babies had nowhere stable to sleep broke me.

With the help of a borrowed car and a nonprofit called Semper Fi, they finally moved into a rental home. But the borrowed car had to be returned. Thankfully, the people who loaned it offered to buy them a used van — but when my daughter and son-in-law got it home, it was filled with rat feces. They spent a week cleaning it, desperate to make it work. It lasted one hour before the transmission failed completely.

Today, Kameron walks or catches rides to his new job as a barista. They are trying so hard, but they can’t seem to catch a break. They have no working vehicle. Their phones are shut off. They are months behind on rent with eviction looming again. Their utilities are close to being disconnected. And now their storage unit in California — holding their children’s baby photos, their military gear, their clothes, furniture, and memories — is going up for auction. This storage only existed because the military lost my daughter’s orders for two whole years.

I am asking — as a mother, as a grandmother, and as someone who has watched two veterans lose everything despite fighting with everything they have — please help if you can. Anything at all will make a difference. And if you cannot donate, please share their story and keep them in your prayers. They need every bit of love, hope, and positive energy they can get right now.

Thank you, from the bottom of my heart,
— A worried and heartbroken mother
