Urban Hope Training Center

Tax deductible
The history of Birmingham, Alabama can be a dark one, but Urban Hope is here to bring light to a city trying to re-build itself - Fairfield, AL.  Since the 1960's and 70's, Fairfield, located in west Birmingham, has struggled with economic hardship .

Pastor Alton Hardy of Fairfield's Urban Hope Community Church  has teamed up with Clerestory Inc. to dream big and create the Urban Hope Training Center (UHTC) .  UHTC will be a meeting place in Fairfield (see pics below) for an 18-month training program whereby young people who desire, and are selected, to participate will undergo intense discipleship and training. These young people will not only regularly attend church and bible study, but will also meet weekly in class settings, in partnership with Clerestory, to learn basic employment, financial and other life skills. The participants will also undergo culinary training and will be serving in our Urban Hope Café, for which they will be compensated. In addition, they will have the opportunity to live in housing within walking distance of UHTC (for which they will pay rent) with mentoring church members as well as other program participants. These are all crucial steps in discipling young people in our community toward true freedom.

This is not a band-aid - this is an opportunity for young Fairfield residents to achieve long-term employment and strong community which in turn fosters greater hope.

To completely fulfill this dream, it will take $700,000 to renovate and bring to code an existing building and purchase kitchen equipment.   We already have $250,000 donated by area church members and businesses.   We are shooting for a just small a portion from the public who might have a heart for Birmingham's inner city struggles.    Our hope is to have this center up and functional by late 2017.

Even $5 can truly make a change in a struggling community.  Thank you for your generosity.

“The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy. The true neighbor will risk his position, his prestige, and even his life for the welfare of others.” - Martin Luther King, Jr.  in his 1963 book Strength to Love
