Hello, my name is Amy and I have some exciting news!!! As many of you know, I am a mom to two beautiful girls, a wife to my best friend second to Jesus, and a teacher. Normally, June brings thoughts of summer break as well as a renewal of my spirit after a blessed but busy year of teaching. Around the first of the year, however, I was asked to join a mission project to Guyana, South America.
At first, I was like 'wow'... you want or need me to participate? I had just traveled with my family on a mission trip to the Dominican Republic where we gave of ourselves both physically, spiritually, emotionally, and financially. As a teacher and passionate leader of young adults, much energy is given during the school year, and I look forward to the summer being a time of replenishment. The group leader insisted that I could bring value to the mission but also encouraged us to thoughtfully pray about this decision. So started a time of reflection, prayer and family discussions. The easy route would have been to say I was unavailable. I could break for the summer, and yet inside, I knew that my role is to serve.
So please Help me Help others!
My role in Guyana will be to oversee the day camp program while moms and dads serve in various capacities. Along with locals, our group will join together to help build school classrooms in Georgetown, Guyana. In addition to the construction, the group will also help with medical and dental clinics, elderly care outreach, children’s ministry programs, and other forms of outreach in the community.
So why am I asking for help? Simply stated, I feel God is calling me to serve on this trip, but financially, this is a challenge for our family, simply given the timing of it. The money raised will pay the mission organization (Maranatha.org $895) and the rest for airfare (est. $1200). Any additional monies raised will be donated to the local project serving the youth of Guyana. I will be giving of my time and my spiritual gifts while on the trip, leaving my children and family back in the states. Your help will uplift my efforts to make a difference in this world. In humble service to our Savior, I thank you.
