Hi, we are a team of students from the University of North Texas who are raising awareness and funds for Partnership Home, a nonprofit dedicated to addressing homelessness in Tarrant County. Partnership Home, formerly Tarrant County Homeless Coalition, got its start in 1989 to combat the rising homelessness in Fort Worth at the time. Partnership Home acts as a centerpoint of leadership and planning for the variety of homeless services across Tarrant County. Their website contains a helpful aggregate of resources provided by shelters and aid groups like Salvation Army so that people can easily find the help most suited to their needs. Another essential role that Project Home serves is to manage homelessness statistics - they regularly perform a survey of those living without homes in Tarrant County to better understand what programs and where need more support and to help create additional strategies.

One of Partnership Home’s goals is to research and help inform other organizations about homelessness. As part of their research they conduct surveys and gather stories directly from people experiencing homelessness. They’ve found that there are many factors that can lead to homelessness and many times it happens in a domino effect. This is one of the stories they’ve gathered: “one woman living in her car said a lack of affordable housing and limited income from Social Security drove her to homelessness. She was a business analyst in information technology. Now, her Social Security check is her only income. She parks her car in a lot and drapes blankets to block out the glaring streetlights, which can make it hard to sleep.” These stories help us to remember that behind every statistic is a person.
