Unleash The History: Hillsboro Argus Online Project
Donation protected
From 1894 to 2015, The Hillsboro Argus had a historic run as the biggest and most successful community newspaper of its kind. Hundreds of thousands of stories, photographs, and every other form of information that one could imagine were chronicled in those legendary pages.
The Hillsboro Argus ended its run after being bought by Advance Media, which merged it into The Oregonian. When that happened, the people of Hillsboro, Oregon, and the surrounding towns and farm communities lost the source of their news and much more. Our collective History is trapped in those stories and volumes. And it's time for us to win it back!
The Hillsboro Historical Society has made it its Mission to digitize the thousands of issues of the Hillsboro Argus for the University of Oregon's online archives.
So far, we have funded this work on our own, but we can no longer make that financial commitment! WE NEED YOUR HELP!
Early Printing in the upstairs Print Shop
What we have accomplished:
- The Hillsboro Argus is now readable online from 1894 to 1930.
You can research and key-word search these valuable papers by visiting this website!
- The Hillsboro Historical Society members have paid for this through their own donations and some small grants. Well over $5,000 have been expended.
- NOW WE ARE SCANNING 1930 to 1950—This will open up the stories of the Great Depression, WW II, Korea, and so much more.
- These are the stories of our town, of Washington County, of our loved ones and relatives, both alive and deceased!
- The thousands of photographs will soon be sharable far and wide. The potential to assist thousands to connect their stories regardless of their mobility and financial status will be life-changing for many!
