Growing up in North Miami Beach in the 80's and 90's there's probaly no one that didn't know of the gentle, soft spoken, level headed and sweet Shamad Tatem.
Probaly just hearing his name brings a snapshot picture of one of his childhood sincere smiles and maybe even some of his charismatic charming smiles for the ladies that secretly were in love with him. :)
Throughout the years I can only speak of the captured sincere moments of who Shamad was, is. Since elementary anyone knows that it's almost like he is an old soul and wise beyond his years. Respectful. A peacemaker. These traits have stayed with him still to this day. In middle school, he was inviting to everyone.
You won't remember him being a hot head or a bad influence, but you will remember genuine smiles, hugs, laughter and camaraderie. In high school, the same. During our college years the same. Even into our 30's, the same. Shamad is consistent. He is faithful. He is true. A few years ago, Shamod was rhyme of reason between me and someone. I still have a recording of his voice on my voicemail trying to be a peacemaker in the background, as always. Of course.
Throughout the years, Shamad has no reason to check on us, me and my son, but every so often, he does. Just to make sure we are ok. Just to tell me that Uncle Micky loves my son and is here. I've never thanked him before for that, or for the solid and consistent friend he has been for almost 3 decades now. I'd be willing to bet that I'm not the only one that sincere Shamad has been solid, consistent, faithful to throughout the years, always shedding positivity and love.
You may all know by now that Shamad was in an accident. He is now paralyzed from the waist down and experiencing neurological difficulty. He spent a month, in a hospital navigating this experience alone due to covid. He has 3 beautiful children. Today, a group of old friends who haven't spoken in decades called him on Zoom to spend some time with him. He is still, solid, faithful and true even alone, even paralyzed, even not knowing what is next. Tomorrow, he may have to be re-admitted into the hospital, for who knows how long, as he is really having neurological difficulty, you can tell even when he speaks, he is present, he is coherent, but it's delayed.
I asked him, hoping to be able to do something for him, anything, what do you need? What can we do? He's solid. He's faithful. His response, and I'm crying while I write these words because I can't even begin to understand how he is centered, but he responds, "I just need your prayers. I just need your faithfulness. I just need positivity and light. You could give me a $1,000,000.00 and if you're heart is not right, that $1,000,000.00 won't do anything for me. I need your prayers."
As I'm writing this, my son continues to ask me, what happened to him, he doesn't understand, but he understands compassion. He knows he's hurting. He knows he's in a lot of pain. He says to me, "let's buy him a toy and go take it to him in the hospital, we can wrap it at our home." If it were only that simple, and the truth is, if we were allowed to go to the hospital, I know that a small $1.00 toy car would light up Shamad's heart.
This could be any of us. This is someone who is family to us. Tonight, a group of childhood friend's decided that we will solid. That we will be faithful. That we will be positive. That we will be light. So we encourage anyone and everyone to please lift up our friend, our family, Shamad Tatem in prayer. For a full recovery mind and body. I would say soul, but he is faithful.
We would like to help fundraise enough money to keep up with his medical bills, they are currently over $20k. We would like to be able to help his children as much as we can while he fights faithfully towards full restoration. In JESUS name we pray for Shamad's full healing and testimony to the Kingdom of Heaven. We know and believe that OUR FATHER has a purpose for Shamad and his current trial. We thank you all in advance for answering the call to action for prayers of healing and providing resources to help us help him and his family.
We Love You. We are NMB.
