Hi Everyone, watching the events over the past few days tells me that the US is in crisis! Black Activists and Ally Activists are constantly under threat of physical and state violence from the cops, while you get a pass if you’re a MAGA bro. Seeing Jaz get arrested by the cops for an event they dropped charges on 6 months prior reminded me; no one who participated in Thurston is safe until the lawsuit is done.
Non-profits, while immensely helpful, they have major restrictions that can occasionally reduce their capacity to handle activist bail. This fund aims to be a temporary stop gap, allowing us to bail out individuals when their life depends on their ability to work, take care of family/friends, and other important aspects while non-profit organizations review the case.
2020 has seen tough times, and 2021 looks to be the same. There are 10-15 civil-rights activists currently at risk of facing arrest or legal repercussions because of the Thurston incident. In order to continue the fight for Black lives, I have created a perpetual fund designed to be a stop gap between non-profit bail funds and civil rights-activists who are creating change in our community. This fund will be maintained and kept active through monthly donations from myself though the duration of the lawsuits related to it. If that lasts for multiple years, I will also pay the necessary taxes.
It’s important to have access to unrestricted funds when dealing with the cops.
By donating to this fund, you are ensuring that these civil-rights activists can stay anonymous, have an immediate solution towards bail.
We are an activist family, so, if a bail fund reimburses the fund, I will initiate refunds on a first come, first serve basis if you chose to be refunded. Thank you for your support and let’s continue the fight for Black lives. I will reach out to Eugene protest groups and offer this service to them as the fund grows.
Note: While this fund was created to support individuals who participated in the BU event, BU will not be financially responsible for this fund.
