United Against Glynchbrook – Legal & Expert Costs Fund

Donation protected
Glynchbrook is a proposal for a large-scale development of around 3,500 houses in open countryside in Redmarley, Gloucestershire, on land bordering the Malvern Hills National Landscape and adjacent to the Lowbands Conservation Area. If taken forward, it would result in permanent and irreversible change to the character of the surrounding open countryside, nearby villages, and the setting of protected landscapes and heritage assets.

The proposal is currently being considered at the Regulation 18 stage of the Local Plan process, where options are being consulted on and supporting evidence is still being tested. This is a critical stage, as decisions taken through the Local Plan will shape development patterns for decades to come, and once land is allocated, the principle of development becomes significantly harder to challenge.

Many local residents believe the scale, location, and impacts of this proposal raise serious concerns in relation to planning policy, landscape protection, environmental sustainability, and infrastructure capacity.

United Against Glynchbrook - Save Our Countryside is a community-led group formed by local people in and around Redmarley who want to ensure that decisions about our area are made properly, transparently, and in accordance with planning and environmental law.

We are not opposed to development in principle. We are opposed to the development of this scale in a sensitive rural location, particularly where there are legitimate questions about landscape harm, heritage impact, infrastructure provision, and the robustness of the evidence used to support it.

Our objective is to secure the removal of this proposal from the Local Plan through evidence-based challenge and lawful planning processes, on the grounds that its scale and location are inappropriate and that the evidence relied upon to support it is flawed, incomplete, or inconsistent with planning policy.

Why are we fundraising?

To engage effectively with proposals of this magnitude, communities must do more than object emotionally. They must respond with clear, professional, and evidence based arguments. That requires specialist advice and independent scrutiny.

Funds raised will be used to cover legal and professional costs, including:-
  • Independent planning advice
  • Legal review of planning and consultation processes
  • Expert evidence for example on landscape, highways, environment, or sustainability where required
  • Preparation of formal representations and submissions
These costs are beyond what individual residents can reasonably meet on their own.

The campaign will continue beyond Regulation 18 and, where necessary, through subsequent stages of the Local Plan and planning process. We are committed to pursuing all appropriate and lawful avenues until all reasonable options have been exhausted, to ensure that decisions are properly scrutinised, evidence led, and compliant with planning and environmental requirements.

How the funds will be managed

All funds will be used solely for campaign related legal and professional costs. Spending decisions will be overseen by the campaign’s steering group, and supporters will be kept informed of progress and outcomes.

Transparency matters to us. Updates will be shared so contributors can see how funds are being used and what they are helping to achieve.

Why your support matters

Developments of this scale set precedents that last for generations. This is about ensuring that:-
  • Open countryside is properly valued
  • The setting of the Malvern Hills National Landscape is protected• The character of the Lowbands Conservation Area is respected
  • Infrastructure capacity is honestly assessed
  • Local communities are genuinely heard
Even a small contribution helps ensure the process is fair, lawful, and evidence-led.
