Original Posting April 14:

"I never thought we Ukrainians would be refugees." These are the words of Yana Molot, who had to flee from Ukraine when the Russian bombs started dropping in late February. She fled with her two sons, Mark (age 16) and Lev (age 11) and her brother, Vladislav and his partner Anzhela. They made the arduous journey from Ukraine through Poland and then Mexico, eventually crossing the border into the US via a humanitarian visa.

This Front Page Newspaper article chronicles their incredible journey from their town under siege to Los Angeles   https://www.smdp.com/ukrainian-family-travels-by-foot-train-and-plane-to-reach-safety-in-santa-monica/217246

Yana worked in Ukraine as an accountant. Mark attended a high school that focused on business, is a wild-man on a stunt scooter, and was awarded a grant to build a skate park in his village. Unfortunately due to the war the park was not completed, but Mark has not given up hope. He says he will build it even better than he planned when the war is over. Lev is a talented musician, playing piano and drums and is quick to smile. Vladislav, age 28, worked in Informatics and dreams of working in a gaming company. In his sparetime he plays chess and futball (aka soccer :). Anzhela (age 23) works as a hairdresser and loves movies and sports.

The Lauer family from Santa Monica started hosting this incredible family when they heard about how to help those fleeing the war at the site https://www.ukrainetakeshelter.com.
Since their arrival, our community has gotten involved to help. Please keep it going!

FUNDS are being raised to help with living expenses, find an apartment near their only relative in Los Angeles and supporting the boys while they navigate a new school and family while they wait out this war. Their dream is to return and rebuild but until then they are here with us. All of us.

Please be generous and donate what you can. Slava Ukraini

Since they've been with us, their tenacity, drive, and independence have been evident. They have pride and humility and are quick to offer help in anyway they can. Your donation is going to progress.
