Unapologetic Blactivism
Donation protected
Unapologetic Blacktivism is a fund created by Black scholars of Franklin and Marshall’s Black Student Union that works to fundraise and support the greater Black community in times of crisis. This fund was created independently of any collegiate institution and in response to the protests that erupted in cities across the country in response to the recent Murders of George Floyd, Sean Reed, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and Tony McDade.
This trauma we have been witnessing is not exclusive to this particular situation, but as history points out, Black people have been subject to acts of brutality all over the world for centuries. George Floyd’s murder was the tipping point of the injustices Black people encounter every day in America. While peaceful protests, marches, and rebellions are taking over our nation, Black people are being choked, shot down, stripped of their Basic human rights, and STILL not being heard. These recent uprisings are an outcome built from pent up anger and oppression and won’t be silenced.
We refuse to perpetuate the violence brought on by white supremacy and in an effort to use our status as scholars and witnesses to this crime, we want to financially support any and all protests and initiatives that have deeply affected Black Students. Thus far we have created a tentative list of organizations we will be donating to support Black activism. To begin, we will start making $400 donations to each of the organizations listed. As our fund continues to grow, we will increase the amount we send to each organization and update the list with new organizations on a regular basis. All funds are distributed at purview of the F&M's Black Student Union and will be reported to members of Franklin and Marshall's African American Alumni Council.
