Una Mano Para Mamá

"Una Mano Para Mamá" (A Helping Hand for Mom) endeavors to help the most vulnerable women and mothers in La Paz, Bolivia in the current battle against the coronavirus, as well as in the uncertain times to come. We consider that they are the most important pillar of the family, and therefore of society. Given that hygiene is crucial to avoid contagion at this time and that many of these families are experiencing financial difficulties, we seek to raise funds and collect groceries to deliver kits with basic sanitary products and non-perishable goods to the most affected mothers.

A kit covers the basic food needs of a family of 3 for at least 2 weeks, as well as maintaining hygiene as a preventive measure for COVID-19. Additionally, through this project we encourage moms to stay at home instead of exposing themselves when acquiring their daily food, avoiding the possible contagion of the most important pillar of the home: our moms.

The average cost of each kit is 100Bs. (the equivalent of around 15USD). Currently, we're trying to reach as many as 800 families (which is about 1600 people) through:

• Fundación Enda and Fundación Munasim Kullakita, two foundations who work with women rescued from situations of domestic violence and sexual exploitation.

• Centro REMAR, a center that provides daily meals for low-income single-parent families.

• A neighborhood comprised of families in need in El Pedregal.

• People in urgent need in the hillside of Achumani, Caillumani and other surrounding neighborhoods.

We're also currently working on developing a partnership with a local organization called "Mamás al Volante" (Spanish for Moms Behind the Wheel) that seeks to bridge the gap of insecurity within local public transportation by recruiting unemployed mothers and creating a safe ride-hailing network for women and children. Through working with them, we plan on delivering these kits, while also contributing to their cause.

May is also mother's month here in Bolivia! Therefore, we plan on continuing with the support once quarantine is over, in order to soften the impact of this crisis on the most needful families and help them get back on their feet.

Our dream is to reach moms all over Bolivia and this is just the beginning of a better life for them.

“Una Mano Para Mamá” busca ayudar a las mujeres y madres de familia más necesitadas de La Paz en esta batalla contra el coronavirus ahora y en los tiempos que vienen. Consideramos que ellas son el pilar más importante de la familia y por ende de la sociedad. Dado que la higiene es muy importante en este momento para evitar el contagio y que muchas familias están pasando por dificultades económicas, nosotros buscamos recaudar fondos y víveres para hacer entrega de kits con productos sanitarios básicos y alimentos no precederos a las madres más afectadas.

Un kit cubre la necesidad básica alimenticia de un hogar de 3 personas para por lo menos 2 semanas, así como mantener la higiene para cuidarse del COVID-19. Adicionalmente, fomentamos a que las mamás se queden en casa a buscar el alimento de cada día, evitando el posible contagio del pilar más importante del hogar: nuestras mamás.

El costo promedio de cada kit es de 100Bs. (el equivalente de alrededor de 15 USD). Actualmente, estamos tratando de llegar a 800 familias (unas 1600 personas) a través de:

• Fundación Enda y Fundación Munasim Kullakita, que trabajan con mujeres rescatadas de situaciones de violencia doméstica y explotación sexual

• Centro REMAR , un centro que proporciona comidas diarias para familias monoparentales de bajos ingresos

• Un vecindario de familias necesitadas en El Pedregal.

• Personas muy necesitadas en las laderas de Achumani, Caillumani y otros.

Actualmente estamos trabajando en el desarrollo de una asociación con una organización local llamada "Mamás al Volante" que busca cerrar la brecha de inseguridad dentro del transporte público mediante el empleo de madres y la creación de un sistema de viaje seguro para mujeres y niños. Al trabajar con ellas, podremos entregar los kits con mayor facilidad como también generarles empleo y así contribuir a su causa.

¡Mayo es el mes de mamá! Por lo cual nosotros continuaremos con el apoyo una vez acabada la cuarentena, para así suavizar el impacto de esta crisis en las familias más necesitadas.

Soñamos con llegar a mamás de todo el país, esto es solo el comienzo de una mejor vida para nuestras queridas mamás.
