Insieme per migliorare la vita e favorire il benessere dell’intera comunità.

Ciao, siamo Giorgia, Nina e Alessandro e stiamo svolgendo il Servizio Civile Universale sulla costa del Kenya, a Diani Beach, insieme a CAMMINI MINIMI. Qui lavoriamo per una ONG locale con sede a Nairobi, Volunteer Action for Change in Kenya (VACK Jitolee).

Uno dei progetti in cui siamo coinvolti si svolge nel villaggio di Gandini, nell’entroterra di Diani, dove lavoriamo con un gruppo di donne in un percorso di empowerment di comunità.

In questi mesi abbiamo costruito insieme diverse attività:

• workshop su violenza di genere, educazione alimentare e imprenditorialità

• un piccolo mercato di beni di prima necessità

• un orto comunitario, progetto ideato dai civilisti dell’anno scorso, nato per trasformare un terreno inutilizzato in una risorsa per il villaggio

Purtroppo, la continuità del progetto dell’orto ha incontrato numerose difficoltà, principalmente a causa della scarsità d’acqua. Nella stagione secca si può irrigare solamente manualmente, prendendo l’acqua in un pozzo a circa 250 metri di distanza. Lì vengono riempite delle taniche da 20 litri, che poi vengono portate sulla testa o fatte rotolare sul terreno sotto il sole cocente dell’equatore. È un lavoro lungo e faticoso, che richiede tempo ed energie e che, nonostante l’impegno, non basta a garantire un apporto idrico sufficiente.

Senza acqua, l’orto si ferma. E con lui si ferma anche un’opportunità concreta di cambiamento.

Quell’orto è molto più di un campo: è cibo per le famiglie e possibili prodotti da vendere all’interno del negozio, ma anche autonomia, fiducia e la possibilità concreta di costruire qualcosa di proprio. Non offre solo sostentamento, ma rafforza l’autosufficienza e la determinazione a migliorare la propria condizione economica e sociale, diventando parte fondamentale del percorso di empowerment della comunità.

Per questo motivo abbiamo deciso che sarebbe fondamentale, sia per la continuità del progetto che per l’intera comunità, realizzare un nuovo pozzo alimentato ad energia solare.

Abbiamo fatto una analisi geologica dell'area e ABBIAMO TROVATO L'ACQUA!

• perforazione del suolo

• rivestimento interno del pozzo

• tubazioni

• pompa elettrica

• pannello solare

• analisi dell’acqua ed eventuale depurazione

• cisterna da 5000 litri

• struttura sopraelevata

Together to improve lives and promote the well-being of the entire community.

Hello, we are Giorgia, Nina, and Alessandro, and we are carrying out our Universal Civil Service on the coast of Kenya, in Diani Beach, together with CAMMINI MINIMI. Here, we work for a local NGO based in Nairobi, Volunteer Action for Change in Kenya (VACK Jitole).

One of the projects we are involved in takes place in the village of Gandini, in the inland area of Diani, where we work with a group of women in a community empowerment program.

Over the past months, we have developed several activities together:

• workshops on gender-based violence, nutrition education, and entrepreneurship

• a small market for essential goods

• a community garden, a project designed by last year’s volunteers, created to transform unused land into a resource for the village

Unfortunately, the continuity of the garden project has faced several challenges, mainly due to water scarcity. During the dry season, irrigation can only be done manually by collecting water from a well about 250 meters away. There, 20-liter jerrycans are filled and then carried on the head or rolled along the ground under the intense equatorial sun. It is a long and exhausting task that requires time and energy and, despite the effort, is not enough to ensure an adequate water supply.

Without water, the garden stops. And with it, a real opportunity for change also comes to a halt.

That garden is much more than a field: it provides food for families and potential products to sell in the shop, but also represents autonomy, confidence, and the real possibility of building something of their own. It not only offers sustenance, but also strengthens self-sufficiency and the determination to improve economic and social conditions, becoming a fundamental part of the community’s empowerment journey.

For this reason, we have decided that building a new solar-powered well would be essential, both for the continuity of the project and for the entire community.

We conducted a geological analysis of the area and WE FOUND WATER! Now only the final step remains—and this is where you come in: with a donation, you can help the community turn this dream into reality.

The funds raised will be used for:

• pay the geologist

• drilling the ground

• internal lining of the well

• piping

• electric pump

• solar panel

• water testing and possible purification

• 5,000-liter water tank

• elevated support structure

Every contribution makes a difference.

If the funds raised exceed what is needed, they will be used to improve the project, support other initiatives within the community, or assist other contexts in which we work.
