Compass Collective- Refugee Week Challenge

Donation protected
Compass Collective is a charity that assists unaccompanied minor refugees and young people seeking asylum. We work with these young people at a critical moment in their lives when they most need support. Our projects are all designed to build resilience and help young people to successfully integrate into the UK. We achieve this through a variety of projects including English language classes, theatre, music, and film projects and arts-based professional development programmes.

We support approximately 150 young people aged 14-26 a year, from 12 locations in the UK. The majority are at their initial stage of immigration. 70% are unaccompanied minors.

“You are all new to me but now I have friends, now I have family”

Ukraine to London - Refugee Week fundraising campaign
We have received an influx of new referrals and are seeking to expand our work to accommodate new arrivals from Ukraine and other young refugees fleeing war and persecution. Demand has tripled and we urgently need to find funding to support isolated and vulnerable young people in need. With additional mental health support post-pandemic and increase in new arrivals from Ukraine, we are facing challenges with capacity. Your support will enable us to continue to be able to accommodate new arrivals and offer sustained support through weekly activities and to increase the 1:1 presence and support from the Young Persons Coordinator and Caseworker. We are receiving new referrals on a weekly basis and are in a unique position to be able to offer immediate support the same week.

We recognise the barriers that our beneficiaries face in accessing opportunities for personal growth and integration (low levels of English language, lack of a social network, and poor mental health). We believe that through strengthening communities, creating social networks, and providing platforms for personal development, we can dramatically improve the quality of life for our young people.

The Challenge!
We are collectively taking on 1,140 miles - the distance from London to Ukraine over Refugee Week (20th - 26th June). Modes of transport include running, walking, cycling, swimming, rowing, unicycling and tandem biking!

This will enable Compass to continue running our ongoing programmes as well as expand to welcome new arrivals from Ukraine.

People will be taking on all sorts of challenges solo and together. We have organised a 60 Mile London to Brighton cycle on Sun 26th led by the fantastic athlete and Compass representative Tesfey, 10 km and half marathon in Hyde Park on Sat 25th June for those who want to run in company.

Thank you for your support!
