Support for victims of 1965 in Indonesia
Donation protected
For the fourth time since 2020, I am seeking funds to support victims of the US-backed atrocities that took place in Indonesia in 1965 and 1966. I got to know many of these survivors while researching my first book and I remain in contact with the organization, Sekretariat Bersama 1965, based in Solo.
They reached out to me recently as they face the possibility that they may have to shut down. Among other things, Donald Trump's spending freeze has disrupted the philanthropic world in Indonesia to such an extent, they say, that they have been caught without funds they were expecting. I am making an immediate donation, but we hope to get a bit more.
Around $3,000 will cover half of their expenses for the rest of the year. If we can push a bit higher, I will try to cover two thirds of what they need for 2025. Previously we have raised money here to pay for their rent, and for the costs of very basic supplies (rice, fruit, cooking oil) as well as medical care for the aging community.
Thanks very much,
Vincent
