Hello everyone, my name is Jack. I am very grateful to have been given the opportunity to take part in a 2026 Uganda outreach trip with Abaana, a charity that works with vulnerable children and communities in Uganda.
Our school, Bangor Grammar School, has a long-standing partnership with Abaana. In previous years, this partnership helped to build a primary school in Coorom, Northern Uganda, creating lasting educational opportunities for children in the region. I’m very proud to now have the chance to continue being part of this connection.
During this trip, I’ll be working in different communities, including supporting children at Coorom Bangor Grammar Primary School in the Gulu region, spending time with street children in Kampala, and helping with practical projects such as improving sanitation and community facilities.
One of the realities for many children in rural Uganda is the long distance they must walk to school every day, often around 2.5 miles each way. This is something I want to reflect upon in my own preparation. In the weeks leading up to the trip, I’ll be taking on a running challenge, aiming to cover the same distance around five days a week, similar to a typical school week. This is a small way in which I can understand and connect with the daily journey many children make just to access education.
I am committed to the trip and have already paid the full cost upfront myself, which totals £2,500. I am now fundraising to help cover these costs.
Any additional money raised beyond my target will be donated directly to Abaana to support their ongoing work with children and communities in Uganda.
This is a hugely meaningful opportunity, and I’m extremely grateful to be part of it.
Any donation, no matter how small, would make a real difference and is very much appreciated.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and for your support.
