2021 UCSF SFSU DPT Malawi Trip
Donation protected
Hi!
We're Physical Therapy Students at UCSF/SFSU traveling to Malawi, Africa for an educational outreach project. Malawi is an amazing community with a critical shortage of physical therapists. We’re a team of 3 DPT students and our professor Dr. Casey Nesbit, who has been traveling to Malawi for the past 15 years, providing physical therapy services for the 200,000 people in the area. During our time in Malawi, we'll be leading a rehabilitation training program for home-based palliative care community health workers, focusing on critical skills, case management, and leadership development. The community health workers not only provide rehabilitation services in the villages, they also monitor blood pressure in patients with cardiovascular disease. We will also be providing physical therapy services for patients at St. Gabriel's Hospital, including the inpatient rehab unit, as well as home-bound patients in the surrounding area.
This trip is not funded by UCSF/SFSU, so we need your help to make it happen! With the uncertainty of the pandemic and the chance we are unable to go, any money raised will be directly donated to St. Gabriel's Hospital.
Cost breakdown for each student:
-Airfare = $2200
-Housing = $50
-Food = $150
-Ground transportation = $100
-Student fee to the Medical Council of Malawi = $140
Total cost = $2,640 x 3 students = $7,920
Travel dates: December 8, 2021 - December 31, 2021
Any contribution is greatly appreciated!
