UCS All Access Recreation Path

Donation protected
The Brewster River Mountain Bike Club has partnered with the Underhill Central School to provide an all-access recreation path for everyone to enjoy. This path would include an ADA- accessible recreation path around the perimeter of the school with opportunities for developing skills. This path will be for all activities including walking, running, skiing, biking, strolling, wheeling, or any other form of movement you can think of! The idea started as a tribute to a local community member, Deb Towne, who was a passionate advocate for the community, living every day to the fullest, and appreciating the value of the outdoors. The local bike club wanted to recognize her core values in a way that would encourage community, recreation, and spending time outside. This recreation path would support programs such as Kids on Bikes, Girls on the Run, Walk/Bike to School, PE classes, and community activities. The path is expected to break ground Summer 2023. The skilled labor will be done by John Atkinson with Stoneblender Trails and Excavating. You can pay a visit to Richmond Elementary School where they worked with the school and community to provide a similar resource, which has been an overwhelming success. There will be two primary phases of the project. Phase one will be an ADA-compliant recreation path around the perimeter of the school. Approximately 2000' (1/4-1/3 mile) in length and with a base material of compacted crushed stone (similar to what you might see on a rail trail). There will be built-in natural features for optional skills development and progression. Phase two of the project will be expanding on and improving access to the established trails in the woodlands of the school. There will be organized trail days to help with this phase of the project, stay tuned for those dates!  The Vermont Mountain Bike Association has provided unconditional support to this project and we couldn't thank them enough for their efforts to keep recreation accessible to all. The community has been behind this project from the start. We’d like to send a special thanks to the organizations that have provided grants and financial support to accomplish this project.-Frank W Whitcomb Construction has provided all the raw materials -Kingsbury Construction has provided trucking, labor, and materials -And YOU! With your support, this project has become a reality! Additional questions can be directed via email.
