Hi! My name is Bill Schmitz, and I’m from Ireland. I’m currently preparing for a volunteer project in Tanzania, working alongside UCDVO and the Holy Union Sisters.

From July 12th to August 9th, I’ll be in Mbagala, Dar es Salaam, contributing to a primary school programme that supports children who have been unable to access education due to difficult family circumstances. The Holy Union Sisters have been working in this community for over 25 years, creating a safe learning environment where these children can receive the education they deserve. The congregation not only supports the children’s educational needs but also works to assist the local community, aiming to reduce poverty and improve access to essential services.

As part of this project, each volunteer must raise €1550, which will go directly towards supporting UCDVO and the Holy Union Sisters. These funds are essential in ensuring that the programme can continue providing education, resources, and opportunities to the children who need it most. The Holy Union Sisters rely entirely on donations to sustain their work, making every contribution incredibly valuable.

I’ll be fundraising alongside my fellow UCDVO volunteers, but any individual support through this link would mean so much to me. This project is something I genuinely believe in, and I’m committed to making a meaningful impact during my time there.
