I am reaching out to you today with a heavy heart to ask for your support. My name is Jody, and if you know me, you know this is a hard ask for me and that there is nothing I wouldn't do for my son. Caine has gotten into legal trouble, and I need to raise $9,200 to get him legal representation that I can't afford.

Caine is currently incarcerated, awaiting trial. He is good soul who made some very bad choices, struggles with mental health challenges, and a substance use disorder. He's stuck in a criminal system that is not designed to provide him the rehabilitation that he needs. A proper legal defense would ensure that the outcome of his case reflects his situation fairly and wholistically.

The state-appointed public defender is doing her best, but the reality is the public defender's resources are limited, and the evaluations and assessments that are crucial to understanding his situation are out of reach. These kinds of evaluations are not just helpful, they are essential to ensuring his judgement is fair and just, and that the court sees the whole person, and not just the charge.

We must raise $9,200 to hire a private attorney who can advocate for my son with the urgency, compassion, and expertise that we, as human beings, deserve. A private lawyer will be able to coordinate with mental health professionals and provide a defense that takes into account his history, struggles, and potential for recovery and rehabilitation.

This is about more than just supplementing a lack of resources available to public defense clients- as a mother, it's about giving my son a fair chance at healing and hope for a future with his daughter.
