In Maestra's words:
Why I chose to become an educator... Because I truly believe, with all my heart, that everyone deserves access to education. Access to history. To the truths that have shaped our world and the lives of so many people. Because teaching is not just about delivering information, it is also about inspiring, about helping others awaken their awareness, about guiding others to understand what it truly means to be a citizen of this world. And being a citizen of the world does not depend on race, income, or social status…Being a citizen means recognizing that we live among other human beings. And that what defines us is not what we have, but how we treat one another.
Education is the key to learning not to fear what we shouldn’t fear. It’s the key to breaking through taboos, racism, and discrimination. And at some point… all of us will need to speak. We will need to raise our voices. To stand up for what is right. And for what is just. And that’s why I am here. That’s why I chose this profession.
