On his way to work, Luis was followed by an officer as he walked to his car. Trying to go about his day as normal, he began driving to work, but the officer pulled him over and arrested him on the spot. Instead of providing any explanation for the stop, the officer only asked Luis where he was from. No cause was given, and there was no court order or warrant from ICE to justify his arrest.

Luis was unfairly taken by ICE and is now facing the possibility of deportation — even though he was supposed to receive his green card any day now. He has lived in the U.S. since he was a small child. This is his home. He has built his entire life here, surrounded by his community, friends, and family who love him deeply.

Right now, Luis is sitting in jail while his family works tirelessly with a lawyer to fight for his release and prevent deportation.

Those who know Luis know he is the sweetest person you could ever meet. He has always gone out of his way to help others, even when he has had little to nothing himself. Whether it’s offering a ride, sharing a meal, or simply being there with a kind word, Luis has always given more than he had. Now it’s our turn to show up for him.
