2026: Lingering Effects
As a family who appreciates all the support we’ve received, I’d like to share an update. You all may know that this battle was not free of cost and has not been paid. We have been recently notified that a judge has decided that Emily’s biological father Dequarn should be responsible for the attorney fees. He occurred trying to prevent this entire illegal process. With over $30,000 in Attorney fees hanging in the wind we have no choice to continue to try to rally funds to continue to support not only his family but paying this debt. We all know we faced an extreme civil rights issue and a complete dismissal of parental and family rights and yet we have had no advocacy politically to help us through this process. We ask that you please share our story and continue to help if you can. Without a shadow of a doubt, we are overwhelmingly thankful for all the help and support we’ve received throughout the years.
Update 4.19.2024 After Having Emily be returned to her biological family after 8 years of fighting(March 30,2024) we are facing another battler as the Foster parents have appealed and it will cost us 15,000 to secure an attorney. Please help us by sharing and donating. We cannot allow families to continue to face these injustices and we can start by helping the people fighting to make a change!
It is with my great honor to announce that Dequarn has won the North Carolina supreme court battle for his daughter Emily Brooks. However the war is not over just yet. De’Quarn is going to need excellent counsel to help him complete this task against Rowan County Department of social service. Anything that you have on your heart to try to help us in this situation will help this has been a four year battle and has costed us money that we do not have. We are still fighting but ask that some warriors help us in our battle! We are Bringing Emily Home!
