Recently, my 36-year-old brother has been diagnosed with early signs of demensia due to the amount of brain damage that occurred from receiving full brain radiation when he was 6 years old. Tyler is a survivor of a rare, pineal gland brain tumor, which only 50 children knew to have in 1992. The amount of chemotherapy and radiation prevented the doctors' prognosis of no chance of survival, so my family is forever thankful to have Tyler here, today.
Here we are, 30 years later, and Tyler has been told he will never work or drive, again. We have learned, quickly, he cannot live on his own and filing for state services and disability has been overwhelming and surprisingly, challenging. Tyler has had multiple strokes within the past 2 years so he has an uphill battle that, I know, he will conquer with the right services/support in place.
I am reaching out to anyone who wishes to help Tyler out in this difficult time as well as asking for any advice to help my family and I navigate the procedures of getting the support he requires.
