Xingonas in the Pit presents: THE TX MUTUAL AID FUND FOR DIY BLACK MUSICIANS!

We (Daisy, Monica, Jazzmin, Tommie) are leaders of the San Antonio punk collective Xingonas in the Pit. Since we are unable to have our yearly "Black and Brown Punk Fest TX,” we have decided to kick off the TX Mutual Aid Fund for DIY Black Musicians!

ABOUT THE FUND:

The Texas Mutual Aid Fund for DIY Black Musicians is a grant for Texas-based independent Black musicians working in the punk/alt/experimental DIY (do-it-yourself) music community whose reliance on live shows has been financially impacted by COVID-19.

Why is a mutual aid fund for Black musicians important?

- Because Black musicians simultaneously face two viruses: they are disproportionately impacted by the virus of COVID-19 AND the virus of anti-Black racism.

- Because Black musicians who rely heavily on live shows have lost income due to the pandemic and they deserve to have their basic needs met as both human beings and creators of culture.

- Because alternative Black artists in our community are underfunded, underrepresented, tokenized, culturally appropriated, gentrified, and are met with performative activism & fake solidarity.

- Because in a time when the people in power don’t care about Black lives, we intend to build sustainable communities rooted in collective care, mutual aid, and solidarity where Black people are respected, honored, and uplifted!

We need YOUR help to make this happen!

- This is the time for allies to step up and support Black musicians! Being an ally to Black people is a lifelong commitment and it comes from our action & coin. If you consider yourself an ally, we humbly ask that you show your solidarity in more tangible ways by opening your purse & donating any amount.

- 100% of the fundraising will be allocated to Black musicians whose reliance on live shows has been negatively impacted by COVID-19  (we prioritize Trans, queer, single parents, and low-income individuals).

- In the spirit of all things DIY, we are not corporate sponsored and rely entirely on the support and power of community - we humbly ask you to consider donating. REMEMBER ANY AMOUNT HELPS ($5, $10, $20, $50+) & YOUR CONTRIBUTION WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

HOW THE FUNDS WILL BE USED

- 100% of this fundraiser will go towards Texas-based DIY independent Black musicians who are encouraged to apply here .

- Our $5,000 goal will be divided as follows: $100-$250 grants per applicant depending on how many applications we receive.

- Our approval process will come from a need-based priority rather than first come first serve.

- One application per person, so for example, if a band has three Black people in it, each individual should submit an application.

- All funds will be dispersed into the bank account of Daisy Salinas, XITP founder. Once reaching our goal and reviewing all applications, the GoFundMe donations will be divided and transferred to the applicants via Venmo, PayPal, or CashApp.
