On May 27, 2024, a fire destroyed our home from the inside out. We lost our dog. Our cats and other dog needed months of emergency vet care. We have had tremendous medical issues and have been displaced ever since.

The insurance company has fought us every step of the way, denying, delaying, and refusing to extend our housing funds. We exhausted our retirement, our emergency savings, everything, just to survive the gap.

The house is finally under reconstruction, but we are arriving at the finish line financially empty. We have done everything we could do on our own. We are asking for your help to keep fighting the insurance company and just surviving to get back into our home. There is still a large amount of funds that we have to pay out of pocket to finish the rebuild and the home be declared habitable by code enforcement.

How you will be helping? First, the funds are for finishing the house. Second, so we can catch up on rent and mortgage payments. This will enable us to keep our home and move forward to help others. We are roughly sixty thousand dollars short to not lose what we have been trying to protect. We are basically being held financially hostage by our home insurance company.

We are not asking from a place of carelessness. We are asking because, like many of you, had the safety net in place. It failed. I guess that’s the architecture of big insurance. We used our retirement funds and savings for emergencies. We did the ‘right’ things. We buy home insurance, we save, we created retirement. However at the time when you ‘think’ your safety net is going to work, it fails you in the most devastating way.
