Urgent care is needed to support a newly-single mother of two special needs boys, aged 6 and 3, in the face of unspeakable tragedy.
Our friend Krista is the most dedicated, passionate mother who has navigated more challenges raising her two boys than most of us can imagine. Tragically and unexpectedly, on April 5th 2023, Gus and Seamus’ father died - and sadly due to the nature of his death, the life insurance he would have been eligible for is not valid. With the loss of the sole income provider, the family has to deal with this tragedy as well as figure out how to pay for immediate basic expenses like food, rent, and critical care needs for the boys - while they build a plan for the future.
It’s Autism awareness month. Usually, Krista would be busy crafting beautifully written posts about the challenges and joys of the daily life of mothering her two wonderful boys - spreading awareness and advocating for those with special needs. The boys require specialized care due to a rare genetic disorder they've been diagnosed with from a young age - Seamus when he was two, and Gus via amniocentesis when she was 24 weeks pregnant. This rare genetic disorder comes with mobility challenges, developmental delays, autism, and other impairments. Krista does everything in her power to provide the absolute best life for her children including leaving her teaching career to care for her boys and fight for their needs within the system and refurbishing and selling dollhouses in the evenings to help with household expenses, but the steep expenses associated with their care are overwhelming - and were even when they had a steady income to rely on.
As Krista's friends, we are banding together to help support Krista and her boys in this time of need. We urgently are requesting any help anyone can offer in assisting them with their immediate financial needs as they determine the best path forward, and get through this difficult time.
Please donate whatever you can, share this widely, and connect with us to offer your help in getting Krista, Gus, and Seamus through this storm. If you are unable to donate, please help by spreading the word.
To have a mother like Krista, who adores you, advocates for you, and genuinely loves you exactly as you are - not despite your challenges but inclusive of them - is a rare gift that any child would be lucky to have. It has been an uphill climb for this family with multiple health challenges and the weight of public and private ignorance around the realities faced by those with autism and genetic disorders.
Life can turn in an instant. Your help can change their lives.
If you have ideas of additional ways to support or want to forward your offers of support please feel free to message me and we will get your message through.
