On the 28th June 2026, we (Malachy & James Larkin) take on IRONMAN FRANCE. A 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike, and 26.2-mile run.
We are taking on the challenge to raise funds and awareness for charities supporting bereaved military families. The support in this area from the government is limited, and charities do critical work creating spaces where bereaved families can access support, days out, and activity breaks with other families and children experiencing bereavement.
We understand the fantastic work these charities do and will be forever grateful after bereavement struck our family in 2008 with the loss of our dad. The charities of Scotty’s Little Soldiers, FAB (Family Activity Breaks), and the Forces Children’s Trust have created fantastic, silly, and fond memories from Christmas do’s in London, annual weeks away, and even a trip to South Africa, all with friends new and old, and of all ages.
Accordingly, we have decided to try and give back to these charities through fundraising and creating awareness. To do so we have selected, possibly the hardest event we could think of, an IRONMAN (... wish us luck!).
Any donations will help:
Fund activity breaks that allow children to meet others in a similar situation.
Provide long-term mental health and bereavement support for military families.
Help provide once-in-a-lifetime experiences, opening doors to children and young adults that would never otherwise have these amazing opportunities.
Please consider donating, sharing our page, or cheering us on as we train for this huge task. Every penny goes directly toward ensuring these charities can continue their life-changing work.
All funds will be split evenly between the three charities, you can find out more about the amazing work the charities do below:
