Twins Battle Neurosurgery On The Same Day

Donation protected
Craniosynostois is a birth defect in which one or more of the joints between the baby's skull closes prematurely before the baby's brain is fully formed. When a baby has Craniosynostois, his or her brain cant grow in its natural shape and the head is misshapen.
In some cases, because the birth defect is in the child's DNA, it can go back to it's original shape requiring another neurosurgery. Each neurosurgery the parent(s) go in hoping it will be the last surgery, but knowing it may not be.

August '17 - Identical Twins Lucas And Travis Myrick were born. At 2 days old, after an x-ray of their skulls, their Mother was informed they have been diagnosed with Craniosynostis which would require reconstructive surgery of the skull. At 9 months, the twins checked into Blair Batson Children's Hospital and had their neurosurgeries in the same day. What was supposed to be a 5-7 hospital stay turned into a 21 day hospital day. After the initial neurosurgery, Travis regressed and lost his full ability to swallow. He left the hospital on an NG tube and feeding pump with around the clock feeding. Travis and Lucas looked at the tube as if it were a toy, So every other day they would pull it out - Which would require a trip to Jackson at Blair Batson's, because That hospital is the closest one to their home in Ellisville who has the correct size NG tube. All hospitals that surround their home only had sizes for NICU babies.
At their 6 month post-op check up, Lucas was showing that his skull was trying to go back to it's original shape - The neurosurgeon decided to keep a watch on it, and discussed there is a strong possibility he will require another neurosurgery. While checking Travis, he noticed that 80% of his spaces from his surgery were still wide open. He recommended they go see the Plastic Surgeon, and see what he has to stay.
3 months later, At the appt with the Plastic Surgeon, he said BOTH twins would require another neurosurgery because Travis' skull at this point was converting back to it's original shape & showed great concern because his spaces were still open. He ordered CT scans on each.
After seeing the CT scans, Travis is missing over 75% of his skull while Lucas is missing 40%. He decided it was more than necessary he as well as the neurosurgeon perform the 2nd neurosurgeries together.
Pre-op is scheduled Feb 25, 2020 - With a surgery date of Feb 28, 2020. The doctors will do one twin in the morning, Go to lunch, and do the other twin.

Their mother, Bailey Myrick, is a single Mom of 3. (The father chooses to not be involved.) Bailey works 40+ work weeks, and is not sure at this time how much time she will be having to take off work. It is supposed to be a 5-7 day hospital stay - IF no complications like before. There will be multiple trips from Ellisville to Jackson as well as miscellaneous expenses of necessities such as diapers, wipes, etc.
