We have always envisioned our family as a family of 5, with 3 children. Thankfully, we have been blessed with a son from Kevin's first marriage and a daughter through open adoption.
We had the wonderful honor of adopting our daughter, Lissie, at birth. We have maintained an open and close relationship with her first parents. We are so thankful that she was entrusted to us and we have had the honor to raise her. We planned and saved for our first adoption, and chose not to grow our family through adoption a second time due to the high level of expense and potentially a long wait. It is really a tragedy that the adoption process for willing families (on both sides) can be cost prohibitive and emotionally difficult.
Just recently, after I jokingly made the comment that I had just purchased our last pack of baby wipes, we received a call from Lissie's "first parents." The notified us that they were pregnant again and still didn't feel like they were in a place to parent a child. They honored us again, by asking us if we would be willing to do an adoption plan with them a second time. While we are humbled and know without a doubt there was no way that we could say "no" to Lissie's full blood sibling, we also know there are many, many boxes to be checked, hoops to jump through, and expenses to save for.
In the short amount of time before the baby is born, we need to have the money saved for our homestudy, legal fees, agency fees (Nevada is an agency only state), medical fees, and travel fees...and of course...a few supplies for the newborn little biscuit too.
We feel very awkward asking for help from friends and family...but we have also had several people say they felt silly offering a few dollars here and there...but with something like this, every little bit gets us closer to our newest addtion...the baby we were chosen for...chosen a second time.
Thank you for your generosity and for sharing our story!
