One of the oldest communities in Gulfport, The Historic Turkey Creek Community, an African American community, proudly dedicated two historical markers in 2018 with the help of the Mississippi Department of Archives and History. These markers were erected to bring awareness of the pioneers and settlers that struggled to assure a viable community continued to exist for all the families and their generations to come. Unfortunately, one of the Historical Markers was desecrated (cut in half) on Friday, February 26, 2021. The reason is unclear, but this was a hateful act. The Turkey Creek Homeowners is requesting your help to raise funds to replace the marker as soon as possible and we would appreciate everyone's assistance.
