Diaspora Inferno: From My Grandmother’s Kitchen

I’m Elona Gagani, a theatre-maker and immigrant in the UK. I’m creating Diaspora Inferno: From My Grandmother’s Kitchen — a physical theatre performance reimagining Dante’s Inferno through the eyes of immigrant women.

This work draws on real testimonies from women in London’s diaspora communities, weaving together stories of survival, injustice, memory, and resilience. Through movement, multilingual voices, music, and ritual, the piece journeys through the “circles of hell” that women face: displacement, unsafe work, silence, and struggle — but also rebirth, solidarity, and hope.
