Hi, my name is Heather, and I am fundraising for our son, J.P. Due to his age, and the nature of what is going on, I did not post a recent picture, or his full name and I will be a little vague in the description to help maintain some privacy for him. J.P.'s dad, my husband, retired from the Air Force after 25 years of service in August 2022. This meant we moved every two years during his service. The last move was especially difficult for J.P., who was a sophomore in high school. He has always been strong-willed, but during his sophomore year he started hanging around kids who vaped and did drugs and he began to as well. He started stealing from family members, messing around with girls, and became easily agitated and angry. We pulled him out of that school, to get him away from the kids he was hanging around and put him in a private school. He did well for a while, but then started displaying the same pattern of behaviors. Things progressively got worse. He began stealing from stores, ran away when he didn't get his way, stopped going to class, and became extremely defiant. He also lost all interest in any activities, said he doesn't care about anything and stated he no longer wants to be here (on the earth). His behaviors and mood were so out of control and weekly counseling and medication management was not working. His therapist recommended more intensive treatment for him as he was spiraling out of control, and it was having a big impact on his three younger siblings and the family as a whole.
After an encounter with the police, J.P. admitted he needed more help and was open to the idea of inpatient treatment. I began to do research and, unfortunately, they are expensive. We found an all-male Christian therapeutic boarding school that seemed like a good fit. The problem is the cost and the fact that when we moved in October, we were never able to sell our old house. So, we have been paying two mortgages and things are really tight. Adding the therapeutic boarding school will be like adding a third mortgage. J.P. needs help to address the root cause behind his anger and defiance and explore why he stopped caring about anything and became so depressed. Family relationships also need to be restored and family therapy put in place. Doing this GoFundMe has been very humbling, as we typically don't ask for help, but in order to save our son, and restore our family, we will do whatever is needed. We are not asking for help with the total cost of the program, we believe we can cover the last half after our house sells (hopefully) and we use what we have saved in his 529 college plan. Thank you!
