Trying to get my mum some new hearing aids

Hello My name is Jodie Frampton, i am 22 years old and in 2011 my mum was diagnosed with breast cancer.

She thankfully beat the cancer but unfortunately due to the intense treatments (6 rounds of chemotherapy and 15 rounds of radiotherapy) she lost her hearing.

My mum has tried multiple different hearing aids, some being from the NHS, and some being ones that she has broke the bank (quite literally) to try an improve her hearing, and unfortunately none of them have helped and in some cases have made the problem worse due to the fact that they’ve picked up more background noise and caused my mum severe headaches and tinnitus.

My mum is one of the most positive people i know and she doesn’t let it get her down in any way shape or form. I know that she struggles more than she lets the people around her see, she can’t have conversations in public unless she’s able to read your lips as she relies predominantly on lip reading and has done now for over 10 years. I have seen her get upset or frustrated multiple times with herself when she can’t understand something someone is saying to her, and also i see her get scared because of the amount of judgment people give her when they have to repeat themselves over and over again just for a simple sentence and it breaks my heart.

As i have said she doesn’t let it get her down, but i myself enjoy singing and she hasn’t heard my voice properly in over 10 years and again i know it’s something that upsets her. Music is one of the main things that helped my mum through her treatments and her cancer, and i know something she misses most is just being able to listen to music and i know she would love to do it again.

This is a journey i have been wanting to start for a long time, but have been afraid too for the judgment side of things from people who don’t understand what my mum has to go through daily.
