Sometimes, the most treasured things in life aren’t just things, they’re symbols of love, memory, and resilience.
And sometimes, an asshole Gollum-in-training comes slithering along like, “It's mine....my Preciousss…..”
Which is exactly what happened to Durrell when he was working behind the counter at a gas station and got robbed. And Durrell, being the badass that he is, was able to prevent GasStationGollum from getting away with the merchandise. But, they ripped the necklace and ring off his neck; the one holding his custom wedding ring. You know, THE ring. The one ring that actually bound two people together, in love though, not dark sorcery and lava pits.
This wasn’t just any ring. It was a custom-made symbol of the kind of love that makes you walk right into Mordor barefoot with second breakfast packed and ready. And if you know Bridgette and Durrell, then you know that is exactly the kind of love that they have. They've been through so much already. Sometimes you just need one good thing to happen in order to prove to yourself and the rest of the world that all isn't lost....that there is some good in this world and it's worth fighting for.
I know a ring doesn’t make a marriage. But still…come on. And it sure as hell deserves better than being carried off by a real-life ringwraith with zero taste and no concept of true love. I'm trying to raise money to help them forge a new set (in a jewelry store though, not in Mount Doom—although, if we had the eagles on speed dial.....just saying....).
So, if you’ve ever:
- Believed true love was worth walking into Mordor for
- Wanted to scream into the void
- Thought “you know what, I will fight evil today by donating $10.”
- Said "Not today Sauron"
- Yelled at the Universe mid-breakdown
Welcome to the Fellowship. This is your moment.
Let’s show that even when the ring is lost, the fellowship still shows up.
"A day may come when the courage of Men fails, when we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship, but it is not this day. An hour of wolves and shattered shields when the Age of Men comes crashing down, but it is not this day! This day we fight! By all that you hold dear on this good earth, I bid you stand, Men of the West!" (Tolkien)
Thank you for reading, laughing through the ridiculousness with me, and helping two wonderful people rewrite this deeply unnecessary plot twist.
With love (and a whisper of vengeance),
Kelleigh
