Hey, it’s me Shawn. Most of you probably know my brother Troy. He has lived in Seattle since 1990. Not too long after Troy moved to Seattle, he found out he had one kidney that was not functioning and the other was barely working. Troy went on dialysis for a while and then received one of two kidney transplants. The first kidney lasted 12 years and he has the current kidney for 19 years. We are thankful for the kidneys that were donated by the donors and for the years he has gained from having them. The negative side of transplants are the anti-rejection meds that the recipient must be on. The medications are expensive and have numerous side effects. The most difficult negative effect has been pain in his limbs, joints, and nerves. Troy has worked for the city of Seattle for over 25 years. Unfortunately the pain in his shoulders, knees and hips has made it difficult and even impossible at times to work. Because of this he has had to miss quite a bit of work and has had numerous doctors visits. These costs and those of his Kinsey meds have made it almost impossible to stay above water financially. He is currently seeking help through a social worker and is attempting to get on short term disability, so that he can have time to get a handle on the pain issues as well as work through his options for the future.
If you know Troy, or our family and would be willing to help out at all, we would great appreciate it!
Sincerely,
Shawn Mink
