Tropical Cyclone and Flash Flood in Philippines
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Edward Novio.
Never have I thought I’d ever need to set up a GoFundMe but I believe this is a cause which needs attention. My family and I are personally affected by the tropical cyclone ‘Kristine’ in Philippines and I am asking for the help of you - the public.
I grew up in Naga City where most of my family and friends reside and the whole city was under 6ft of water, some places with more. There was 2 months worth of rainfall in a matter of hours in the early morning of 22nd October which caused landslides and flash flooding in Naga City which is a good distance from the sea, so you can imagine the damage this caused everywhere else.
My auntie who lives on her own in a one floor house near a river, was in the midst of the heavy flash flood, where she had to evacuate within a matter of minutes with nothing but the clothes on her back and her 4 dogs. One of her dogs - Georgina who was pregnant, was unfortunately swept away by the extremely heavy current. My auntie was resilient and fortunate enough to survive with her other dogs, where she was rescued by the coast guards with her hands wrapped around a fence.
All of my family were severely affected as some of them are a bit less fortunate and only have a one story house, where all their possessions have been washed away or ruined beyond salvation. There are millions affected by this catastrophic disaster, not only my family.
With all the money raised, I will send it back to a trusted family member where each individual person in the neighbourhood will receive an amount of money relative to the size of their family. This will be used for basic necessities in order to survive (canned goods, water etc). The more money that we can raise, the more families we can help to receive the basic necessities of their daily lives.
This is the worst flood that my city and region has ever experienced and I feel completely helpless as I live abroad and I don’t know how else to make a difference but to ask the help of all of you. It took over a day to hear back from some of my family and I dreaded hearing the worst. I thank God that everyone is safe, but now I would like to help build their lives back up.
I would like to thank everyone who has helped this cause by reading my story, sharing, liking, commenting, and donating.
