Triathlon Fundraiser - In memory of Tighearnán

On February 3rd 2026, my brother Tighearnán passed away at just 29 years old, after being diagnosed with stage 4 bowel cancer nearly four months prior in October.

T was a devoted husband to his wife, Ellie and an incredible dad to their little girl, Ailbhe. He was also a son, grandson, brother, cousin, teammate and friend to so many - someone who filled every room with energy and humour. Watching someone so full of life fight a disease so cruel is something our family will never be able to fully put into words.

During his illness, T was cared for by the remarkable team at Wirral Hospice St. John's, while Maggie's Cancer Support Centre provided emotional support to our family navigating life alongside his diagnosis. The compassion, dignity and humanity shown to T, and to everyone who loved him - made an unbearable time feel a bit less lonely.

T made friends with the staff, asking them how they could go about their day with such shite coffee on hand (his words, not mine). T wanted to organise to get the staff a new coffee machine. A small gesture to brighten their day-to-day. Even toward the end of his life, T often spoke about wanting to give back to the Hospice staff who cared for him as well as wanting to raise awareness to help other young people in cancer prevention measures and early bowel cancer detection.

In his memory, I will be running the Women's Mini Marathon 2026 and will be taking part in a local Triathlon in July to raise funds for both Wirral Hospice St. John's and Maggie's Cancer Support Centre. T wanted us both to complete the triathlon this year, he was eager to do it together. This will be for him.

These Organisations rely heavily on charitable donations to continue providing specialist care, comfort and guidance to patients and families at the most difficult times in their lives - the same care and support that meant so much to T and to all of us during his illness.

Every donation, no matter how small, will go towards helping these incredible teams continue their work and will allow us to honour T's wish to give something back.

T always said that if his story helped even one person, saved one life from a late diagnosis then it would be worth sharing.

Thank you so much for your kindness and support.

Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam,
Grá go deo,

Becks.

PS: All funds will be withdrawn at the end of the fundraiser and split equally between Wirral Hospice St. John's and Maggie's Cancer Support Centre in T's memory. Proof of donation will be shared once donations are complete.
