On April 21st, I will be racing in the Ironman 70.3 triathlon in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. This means I will swim 1900 meters, bike 90 km, and run 21 km. I know, crazy, right?
I race all the time, and I realized that this would be a great opportunity to reach out to each of you to raise funds for an organization that I am passionate about.
The Maletsatsi Foundation is an incredible organization - a temporary resting place for kids who have had a bumpy start based in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Maletsatsi supports around 40 babies (!!) - that's a lot of diapers, formula, toys, books, blankets and more. Each child costs about $290 a month, just $65 a week. Not to mention all the operations cost - a freezer that just broke, a backup generator (and fuel) for when the power goes out, paying staff to care for the babies and the gardens (with fresh veggies).
It costs a lot to run an organization like Maletsatsi, and they are doing amazing work to support kids in South Africa.
So, as I train every day for the upcoming Ironman race in Port Elizabeth, swimming miles and miles, rolling my bike across Pretoria, and running over tarmac and rock to get the distances I need, I would love those miles to help the kids at Maletsatsi.
Would you consider donating for Maletsatsi as I train for Ironman 70.3?
You could give:
- $65 to support a child for a week - that's diapers, milk, food and more.
- $75 to match the number of kilometers I'm moving each week.
- $100 for a new set of gardening tools for the fresh veggies grown in South Africa's sunshine.
- $200 for a new chest freezer to store all those kiddos' food.
- $290 for a child's needs for a whole month, wouldn't that be special?
- $350 for fuel for the backup generator - when the power inevitably goes out in Joburg.
