Hello! I am Gurmeet Jolly, Senior Vice President, Asset Management Operations & Corporate Services, for Mackenzie Investments. I am raising money for the Mackenzie Together Charitable Foundation and Giving Week by taking on an incredible challenge—a 14-day trek to Mount Everest Base Camp!
On October 15-28th, my wife and I, along with three of our friends, will be doing a 14-day trek to Mount Everest Base Camp, Nepal. It will take nine days to trek to just over 18,000 ft and then a few days back to Katmandu before returning home. We have been following an intense training regime including weekly hikes (3+ hours 15km+), 30km rolling hills outdoor cycling, 30min Peloton HIIT rides and playing golf while carrying clubs for 18 holes (~4 hours of walking and ~12km).
We were inspired to do the hike by a good friend who has this trek on his personal bucket list and invited us to join. We were instantly excited about the opportunity to challenge both our physical and mental fortitude while taking in the breathtaking views of the Himalayas.
Over the past few years, several friends and family members have faced mental health challenges and more recently, a very dear friend is battling cancer. I am deeply inspired by and proud to support the Mackenzie Together Charitable Foundation and its focus on women and children’s mental health and cancer treatment. Life is very precious but not always easy—it is truly amazing how the Foundation and its charitable partners are there to lend a helping hand.
As part of my faith, a foundational tenant is a concept called Seva, which is the act of providing selfless service to benefit other humans and society. My family and I are very blessed and want to give back to our communities to make a difference for those less fortunate. I am very motivated and grateful my personal trek will? raise funds for the Mackenzie Together Charitable Foundation to be used to help our communities.
Follow along with me on his trek, starting October 15-28th, via my social media as I share updates on LinkedIn: Gurmeet Jolly and Instagram: gurmeetjolly5656. All funds raised will be matched by Mackenzie Investments.
