Trek For Teretta

My name is Luca Dalton Im a 5th year student and travelled out to Tanzania last year as part of our TY.

When there I did community work in the locality near Kilimanjaro. I got to see first hand how our fundraising money was used and how important the work we do to help is.

I formed bonds with some of the children there and came home with a different perspective on life. I also decided I wanted to go back out to help and have been working towards that goal since.

On our trip in 2024 the idea about the Teretta Foundation was borne with the ladies we worked with when in Tanzania, Teddy & Lenore. Our TY group gained a whole new education about the impact of doing hands on work. We helped buy and distribute food to the community, fundraise for made to measure wheelchairs for children locked away whom we delivered said wheelchairs to. We took 340 children on their first ever day out and created a surprise Christmas day celebration - will never forget the reactions that day.

We learned of many individual cases about children in the community susceptible to poverty, abuse and health issues. It blew me away how things are so different there.

In the last year the Teretta Foundation has done massive work in helping secure land, build accommodation for 32 children and 2 classrooms for 40 children from age of 4 to 9 years.

I am climbing Kilimanjaro with a group of people to raise much needed funds for the project to help build another classroom to provide an education for children waiting in the locality - many whose only options are to work from the age of 5 or are destined for child marriage. By having the space within a classroom to attend school we can help change the trajectory of many lives.

Part of my fundraising plans include a walk from Kinsale to Cork with a bag similar in weight that a Kilimanjaro porter would carry.

My aim is to raise funds for the project and to cover part of my trek costs in August. As I am only 17, my part time job will only cover so much of the costs. I am very excited and enthusiastic to get back and will post updates on the page when there of how the funds have helped make a difference ❤️
