My name is Lorena Peinado and I’m a single mom of two amazing kids. One of them is Gibran, a 12-year-old boy who loves to laugh and learn.
Gibran has Duchenne muscular dystrophy. DMD is progressive, meaning problems get worse with age. As kids with DMD become teens, muscle weakness throughout the body can lead to heart, breathing and lung problems, and sadly in the end death. There is no cure.
Due to it being progressive, it has already affected his muscles and movement. He utilizes a power wheelchair to get around, and soon will need a permanent wheelchair but he doesn’t let that stop him from living his life to the fullest. He loves to learn and cook!
Unfortunately, we are facing a big challenge right now. We don’t have a vehicle that can fit Gibran’s wheelchair. Our older model KIA Soul is too small and can’t be modified.
It’s been so challenging with transportation. We have tried many non profits that say they will help to only be out in waiting lists. I am desperate now as time is of the essence for my son.
That’s why I’m asking for your help. Our wish is to provide the best life experiences and comfort for however many years he is with us. We need to buy a wheelchair accessible van that can transport Gibran and his power wheelchair safely and comfortably. The cost of such a van is beyond our budget as I only work part-time at a school cafeteria. Due to his illness, various doctors appointments and therapy sessions my employment options are drastically limited.
With your generous donation, we hope to make this journey for my child easier. You can give him the gift of mobility and freedom. Freedom that will allow him to see the world through his own eyes while he can.
Thank you so much for reading our story, your kindness and support. Please share this page with your friends and family. It takes a village. God bless you.
